LH Distributes 60,000 KF94 Masks to Construction Sites to Prevent COVID-19 Spread

[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) is taking proactive measures to manage workers' health by distributing 60,000 KF94 masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at construction sites.

On the 29th, LH announced that it will take the lead in managing the health and protecting the rights of construction workers by delivering health masks to LH construction sites nationwide in response to COVID-19.

Currently, about 30,000 workers commute daily to over 400 LH construction sites across the country. Accordingly, since early this year, LH has been implementing thorough quarantine measures such as mandatory mask-wearing, workplace disinfection, and active guidance on the use of industrial safety and health management expenses, operating the sites safely without any work stoppages to date.

As COVID-19 cases have recently surged again, increasing the risk of infection at sites, LH has been urgently distributing 60,000 KF94 masks to construction sites nationwide since the 25th to protect workers.

LH is also leading efforts to protect workers' rights as well as health management. In June, it introduced the "Construction Subcontracting Ombudsman" system, where professional lawyers provide consultations on unfair subcontracting practices and wage arrears at construction sites. So far, 94 legal consultations have been provided.

LH included information about the Construction Subcontracting Ombudsman system and the KakaoTalk wage arrears consultation system on the packaging of masks delivered nationwide this time, making it easier for workers to access rights protection programs.

Next year, LH plans to be the first public institution to link an electronic card system with the Subcontracting Guardian system to create construction sites free from wage arrears, continuing efforts to protect the rights of construction workers.

Kang Dong-ryeol, Head of LH Construction Technology Headquarters, said, "We are working hard to prevent infectious diseases with the mindset that every construction site worker is a member of LH," and added, "We will do our best to protect the legitimate rights of construction workers and establish a fair trade order."
