'Praying for Donghaean Bridge Construction' Ship Crossing Event in Front of Yeongilman
National Assembly Members Kim Jeongjae and Kim Byeonguk, Pohang City Council Chairman Jeong Haejong Participate
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the 28th, Pohang City in Gyeongbuk held an event crossing the 'Donghaean Bridge' Yeongil Bay crossing section, which stretches 9 km from Yeonam Breakwater in Buk-gu to Imgok Port in Nam-gu, by ship to pray for the construction of the Donghaean Bridge.
Attending the event were Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang, National Assembly members Kim Jeong-jae (Buk-gu) and Kim Byeong-wook (Nam-gu and Ulleung), Chairman Jeong Hae-jong of the Pohang City Council, and Vice Chairman Kim Hee-su of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council. Mayor Lee and others toured the project area by boat and discussed plans to secure the budget for the Donghaean Bridge project next year.
Pohang City has been cooperating with local National Assembly members and continuously visiting the National Assembly, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Ministry of Economy and Finance to request national funding support for the construction of the Donghaean Bridge. On the 16th and 25th, Mayor Lee Kang-deok personally met sequentially with Chu Kyung-ho, the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee Whip, and committee members.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang emphasized, "Gyeongbuk is the only region in the country without a sea bridge," adding, "The Donghaean Bridge must be promoted to revive the local economy, which has been stagnated due to COVID-19 and earthquake damage."
He continued, "If it is for the construction of the Donghaean Bridge, I am willing to jump into the winter sea," and pledged, "We will devise every possible measure to ensure the Donghaean Bridge is built and becomes a stepping stone for regional development."
Meanwhile, Pohang City plans to continuously appeal to the entire nation the earnest desire of 520,000 Pohang citizens and, furthermore, 5.8 million Donghaean residents for the construction of the Donghaean Crossing Bridge, taking this Yeongil Bay ship crossing event as an opportunity.
