[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwanju] The Police Hospital announced on the 28th that, in response to the recent surge in confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), it is operating a residential treatment center for mild patients at the National Institute for International Education in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The Police Hospital has appointed Emergency Medical Center Director Joo Junbeom as the operation director and deployed medical staff including specialists, nurses, and radiologists. It is responsible for medical support such as providing medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, waste disposal and management, and establishing IT systems. Two medical staff from Seoul Medical Center are also participating.
The residential treatment center at the National Institute for International Education operated by the Police Hospital can accommodate up to about 200 patients based on two patients per room. The center is equipped with various medical devices including a specimen collection room, X-ray examination facilities, and emergency response equipment such as defibrillators, emergency treatment kits, and oximeters.
For admitted patients, electrocardiograms, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation are measured, and vital sign data is immediately shared with the hospital information system, enabling medical staff to monitor patients' conditions easily and accurately in real time.
A Police Hospital official stated, "We operate a respiratory patient-only outpatient clinic as a National Safe Hospital (Type A), and separately run a COVID-19 screening clinic. We are making our best efforts to prevent COVID-19 infection and its spread."
