Operation of 'Artist's Studio' Program in Dongjak-gu Village The documentary conducted last year

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is operating the ‘Artist’s Studio’ program, which features the activities and stories of local artists and their works, until December 18.

Last year, the district operated the ‘Artist’s Studio’ program for a total of seven sessions for the first time, introducing local artists’ works in ▲creative plays ▲crafts (textiles, ceramics, and rattan) ▲visual arts ▲documentaries ▲Korean traditional music, thereby expanding cultural experience opportunities for residents.

This year, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the meanings and worldviews of artists’ works in five fields?▲architecture (Sangdo-dong) ▲visual arts (Heukseok-dong) ▲literature (Sadang-dong) ▲theater (Noryangjin-dong) ▲local culture (Sangdo-dong)?will be delivered to residents in an untact (contactless) manner.

The main contents include ▲‘Studio Hasuk,’ where architects remodel old idle spaces in Sangdo-dong into workspaces ▲‘drawing 201,’ which offers a glimpse into the world of painting and installation art in shops in Heukseok-dong ▲and ‘The World of Now,’ which contains stories of a neighborhood bookstore and literature located in Sadang-dong.

Following this, ▲the rehearsal site and behind-the-scenes stories of ‘Theater Company Baeksugwangbu,’ which has created many performances in Noryangjin since 1996 ▲and videos produced by ‘Studio Ciclef,’ where local branding and design meet, will be presented.

The produced videos will be released every Friday until December 18 through the Dongjak Cultural Foundation’s YouTube channel (channel name: Dongjak Cultural Foundation) or website.

Additionally, as part of the 2020 Local Culture and Arts Support Project, the district is conducting ‘Dongjak, Finding Hidden Art’ until this month.

Local artists’ performances and exhibitions such as ▲the dignified textbook concert ▲oboeist performances ▲Dongjak Happiness Song by the Love Rock Performance Group ▲and the Dongjak Art Association’s regular exhibition are provided through the YouTube channel.

Jin-hee Jo, Director of the Sports and Culture Division, said, “Through this program, we will actively discover and support local artists to provide residents with various cultural experience opportunities,” and added, “We will continue to actively promote cultural projects so that residents exhausted by COVID-19 can regain vitality.”

Also, until December 4, the district is holding the ‘2020 Isumi-ro Untact Festival’ to revitalize the local commercial district, which has been depressed due to COVID-19, and to enhance residents’ cultural life by broadcasting invited artists’ support message readings and requested song performances via the special stage LED screen on Isumi-ro and YouTube.
