[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States has surpassed 13 million.
On the 27th (local time), CNN in the U.S. reported, citing data from Johns Hopkins University, that the number of COVID-19 infections was counted at approximately 13,047,000. The confirmed cases in the U.S. account for 21% of the global cumulative infections (approximately 61,473,000). This means one out of every five COVID-19 patients worldwide is in the U.S.
The daily new confirmed cases have exceeded 100,000 for 25 consecutive days as of this date. U.S. media forecast that the number of confirmed cases will surge further due to the large-scale travel during Thanksgiving.
The New York Times (NYT) reported, "With many Americans ignoring Thanksgiving travel warnings and traveling, the cumulative cases have exceeded 13 million," adding that the possibility of an increase in COVID-19 patients across the country has grown.
According to the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), from the start of the Thanksgiving travel period on the 20th through Thanksgiving Day on the 26th, a total of 6.51 million people traveled by airplane.
