Jungnang-gu Selected as Excellent Autonomous District for 2 Consecutive Years in Seoul Outdoor Advertising Evaluation

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has been recognized for excellence through a signboard improvement project that highlights the unique characteristics of the area.

The district announced on the 27th that it achieved the great feat of being selected as an excellent autonomous district for two consecutive years in the evaluation conducted by Seoul City on outdoor advertising standards across 25 autonomous districts.

The comprehensive evaluation over the past year in the field of outdoor advertising improvement and maintenance consisted of 10 items in three categories: outdoor advertising maintenance and enforcement, signboard quality improvement, and administrative matters (such as infrastructure development).

Excellent districts receive institutional and outstanding employee commendations, along with priority allocation of the 2021 signboard improvement project subsidies.

Since 2019, Jungnang-gu has been promoting a large-scale signboard improvement project. This year, it received high praise for creating beautiful streets that reflect the local character by replacing disorderly clustered signboards of 490 businesses across six sections totaling 6.52 km?including Myeonmok-ro, Dongil-ro, Sagajeong Youth Street, Jangmi Cultural Street, Sangbong-dong Ssangyong LG Apartment shopping area, and the extended section of Sinnae-gu-gil?with energy-saving LED signboards.

Additionally, the district carried out projects such as the ‘Ownerless Dangerous Signboard Maintenance Project’ to remove signboards without owners due to business closures, the ‘Pre-approval System’ providing guidance before installing outdoor advertisements, and outdoor advertising education for business owners, which received great response from residents.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Being selected as an excellent autonomous district for two consecutive years is thanks to the active cooperation of our residents,” and added, “In 2021, we will continue to promote the signboard improvement project to create clean streets and revitalize the local commercial district.”

The district is leading efforts to improve the urban landscape by installing anti-attachment boards to prevent illegal advertisements on streetlights, signposts, and utility poles. In early November, it was also ranked among the top six autonomous districts in monitoring efforts to eradicate illegal loan advertisements.
