[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The prosecution has requested a 5-year prison sentence for former Environment Minister Kim Eun-kyung, who was indicted in the 'Ministry of Environment Blacklist Suspicion' case.
On the 27th, at the sentencing hearing of former Minister Kim held by the Criminal Division 25-1 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Sun-hee), the prosecution asked the court to deliver such a sentence. The prosecution also requested a 5-year prison sentence for former Blue House Balanced Personnel Secretary Shin Mi-sook, who was jointly indicted with Kim on charges including abuse of authority.
Former Minister Kim and former Secretary Shin were indicted on charges of demanding resignation letters from 15 executives of public institutions under the Ministry of Environment, appointed during the Park Geun-hye administration, from December 2017 to January last year, and receiving resignation letters from 13 of them. They are also accused of intervening in recruitment corruption by issuing instructions to ensure that candidates preselected by the Blue House and the minister were appointed during the recruitment process for public positions under the Ministry of Environment.
