[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun stated on the 27th, "So far, there have been no major problems, but if the current spread continues, the beds for severe patients will be rapidly depleted."

Prime Minister Chung made these remarks during a meeting with domestic quarantine experts at the Government Seoul Office Building at 4:30 PM that day.

The meeting was attended by Joo Young-soo, Director of Planning and Coordination at the National Medical Center; Lee Gui-ok, Professor at Sejong University; Yoo Hyun-jae, Professor at Sogang University; Ji Young-mi, member of the World Health Organization (WHO) COVID-19 Emergency Committee; Lim Joon, Director of the Public Health Medical Support Center at the National Medical Center; and Yoon Seok-jun, Dean of the Graduate School of Public Health at Korea University.

Prime Minister Chung said, "Throughout the government's fight against COVID-19, the advice of various quarantine experts has been a great help and has formed the foundation of K-quarantine."

He pointed out that although the government restructured social distancing measures on the 7th, less than three weeks have passed since the new system was implemented, and confirmed cases are increasing at a frightening rate.

In particular, the number of confirmed cases on the previous day and that day reached the 500 range, the highest since the crisis in Daegu and Gyeongbuk.

Prime Minister Chung expressed concern, saying, "Whenever confirmed cases surge, the issue of hospital beds is always worrying. If the current spread continues, beds for severe patients will be rapidly depleted."

The meeting participants shared opinions on diagnosing the COVID-19 situation, effective quarantine measures to block the spread, and communication strategies with the public.

Prime Minister Chung said, "Since the expert advice was very helpful at every critical point of quarantine, such as responding to the crisis in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, strengthening social distancing measures, and deciding on school attendance, we will actively listen to experts' opinions and reflect them in future quarantine policies."
