On November 26, the Busan Gijang-gun Agricultural Technology Center donated all the harvested crops, including cabbage, radish, and sweet potatoes, grown after demonstration trials at the New Technology Demonstration Test Field, to the residents suffering from the hardships caused by COVID-19.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] On November 26, the Busan Gijang-gun Agricultural Technology Center gifted crops harvested after demonstration test cultivation at the New Technology Demonstration Test Field to neighbors in need.
The test-cultivated napa cabbage, radishes, and sweet potatoes were entirely donated to groups facing greater hardships due to COVID-19.
The New Technology Demonstration Test Field located in Won-ri, Ilgwang-myeon, Gijang-gun is directly operated by the Gijang-gun Agricultural Technology Center to conduct regional adaptation test cultivation of promising new income crops and to establish new cultivation techniques for distribution to farmers.
The Gijang-gun Agricultural Technology Center conducted test cultivation of napa cabbage and radishes using starfish liquid fertilizer, which is produced in-house and certified as an eco-friendly organic material.
The recently harvested 700 heads of napa cabbage, 400 radishes, and 100 kg of sweet potatoes were delivered to the ‘Gijang-gun Regional Self-Sufficiency Center Gijang-gun Basic Food Bank.’
The donated items will be distributed to socially marginalized groups and social welfare facilities through the Gijang-gun Regional Self-Sufficiency Center.
Earlier, in the first half of 2020, crops harvested from test cultivation of colored potatoes, onions, Chodang corn, and new pepper varieties were donated to the Gijang-gun Regional Self-Sufficiency Center on June 5 and June 18.
An official from the Agricultural Technology Center said, “We are leading the introduction of various new varieties and the dissemination of technology for the development of agriculture in Gijang-gun,” adding, “We hope this will be of some help to the residents who are struggling due to the recent resurgence of COVID-19.”
