[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Gidong] Mokpo E-Land Senior Welfare Center (Director Kang Juho) announced on the 27th that it has been conducting the 2020 application project "Wise Fall Prevention" program supported by the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea since August, aiming for a total of 87 sessions until the end of this year.

For seniors aged 75 and over, aging progresses rapidly, mainly causing declines in physical strength and muscle strength, resulting in a high incidence of falls. Although falls may be considered trivial, the hospitalization and mortality rates among late-stage elderly are significantly higher than those of middle-aged adults.

The "Wise Fall Prevention" program is designed to propose effective fall prevention through multifaceted interventions such as cognitive function, physical function, and psychological emotional support for local late-stage elderly (75 years and older) to promote their health and happy old age. Unlike existing programs, it targets late-stage elderly who are at high risk of falls.

Although it was difficult to conduct the program for a considerable period due to COVID-19, as social distancing measures have eased, the program is being conducted with 30 late-stage elderly participants (75 years and older) who wish to participate in the fall prevention program. The program uses social networks, Fall Efficacy Scale-Korea (FES-K), and Senior Fitness Test (SFT) as measures to carry out the fall prevention program for the elderly.

The participating seniors expressed their gratitude, saying, "We are thankful for running a good program during the difficult times of COVID-19," and showed their determination by saying, "We will participate with enthusiasm."

Director Kang Juho said, "I hope this helps late-stage seniors live healthy and happy lives," and added, "We will strive to operate the program effectively to prevent falls among the elderly."
