[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Baegun Scholarship Foundation announced that it has finalized the recipients of this year's scholarships at the board meeting held on the 24th.
The Baegun Scholarship Foundation, which selects scholarship students annually to nurture local talent, received 680 applications in August, completed document screening, and after deliberation at the board meeting on the 24th, decided to award a total of 596 million KRW to 476 final recipients.
This year, due to a shortfall in applications in some fields resulting in leftover scholarship funds, an additional 44 students were selected, including those facing financial difficulties in their families, middle school special talent scholarship students, and students from multi-child families.
The recipients by category are 373 university students, 2 overseas students, 23 special talent scholarship students, 9 exemplary conduct scholarship students, 9 multicultural family students, 35 multi-child family students, 3 children of hometown residents, 15 designated donations, and 7 schools recognized for excellent special talent guidance.
These students and institutions will receive scholarships ranging from 300,000 KRW to a maximum of 2.5 million KRW, which will be deposited into their accounts after the scholarship certificate awarding ceremony on the 29th of next month.
Students and parents who wish to attend the scholarship certificate awarding ceremony can fill out the application form available in the announcements section on the Baegun Scholarship Foundation website and submit it via fax or e-mail.
Jung Hyun-bok, Chairman of the Baegun Scholarship Foundation, said, “We are pleased to be able to support our local students during these economically challenging times due to COVID-19,” and added, “Next year, we will improve the selection criteria so that more students can benefit.”
Meanwhile, the Baegun Scholarship Foundation was established in 1991 and has raised 23.9 billion KRW in funds through voluntary donations from citizens and companies, awarding 10 billion KRW in scholarships to 10,647 students to date.
