Gangdong-gu Gildong Community Center Rebuilt After 35 Years

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) Gildong Community Service Center will start operations at its new location from 9 a.m. on the 30th, following the promotion of the construction project for a new community center building.

The newly constructed community center was built on the site of the former Gildong 1st and 2nd Autonomous Community Centers at "1183 Cheonho-daero (Gildong 228-6, 8, 10)" with a site area of 848.7㎡, a total floor area of 2256.23㎡, and consists of one basement floor and five above-ground floors.

The building features a pilotis structure, with the basement and the exterior of the first floor serving as an attached parking lot. The interior of the first floor houses an integrated civil service office, the second floor contains a welfare civil service office and a small library (book caf?), the third floor has autonomous community center classrooms, the fourth floor includes a large auditorium, and the fifth floor is designated for the Reserve Forces Dongdae Headquarters and a rooftop garden.

Additionally, eco-friendly low-carbon materials were used throughout the building, energy efficiency was enhanced to grade 1++, and it was certified as a "Barrier-Free Living Environment," ensuring easy access and use for all users including people with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women. The space was designed to be comfortable and safe for all residents.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, "The previous Gildong Community Service Center building was constructed in 1984 and has provided administrative convenience to residents for the past 35 years. However, due to space shortages and aging facilities, a new building was constructed. I hope the newly reborn Gildong Community Service Center becomes a space where residents can receive civil services in a more pleasant environment and enjoy various convenience activities."
