Designation by Personal Information Protection Commission
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on the 27th that Samsung SDS and the Korea National Statistical Office have been designated as pseudonymized information integration specialized institutions.
The integration specialized institutions will perform the safe integration of pseudonymized information to support the activation of the data economy through data fusion across different industries.
Samsung SDS was the first in the private sector to be designated as an integration specialized institution and applied for the designation based on its specialized personnel in various fields within the company and IT infrastructure.
The Korea National Statistical Office, a central administrative agency in charge of national statistics affairs, applied for the designation as an integration specialized institution based on its decades of accumulated big data statistical analysis and data protection capabilities.
The Personal Information Protection Commission stated that it will strengthen collaboration with related central administrative agencies and the designated integration specialized institutions to ensure that the pseudonymized information integration system is consistently promoted and stably established.
The Pseudonymized Information Integration System Council, composed of the Personal Information Protection Commission and related central administrative agencies, will discuss the management and supervision of integration specialized institutions, systems and policies related to pseudonymized information integration, and the discovery and promotion of pilot integration cases. The Integration Specialized Institutions Council, composed of the designated integration specialized institutions, is scheduled to be formed in early December.
Yoon Jong-in, Chairperson of the Personal Information Protection Commission, said, "Since the launch of the Personal Information Protection Commission, the initial conditions for safe data utilization have been completed, including the refinement of the pseudonymized information system, the establishment of a comprehensive support system for pseudonymized information integration, and the designation of integration specialized institutions."
