Among the 10 local governments that advanced to the finals, received high scores for helping recover incorrectly paid local taxes
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) participated in the '2020 Local Taxpayer Protection Officer Best Practice Presentation Contest' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 19th and received the highest score, winning the grand prize.
The presentation contest evaluated 10 finalists selected through preliminary screening from 99 cases presented by local governments nationwide. The evaluation combined on-site judging scores (50 points), reflecting content delivery and audience response, and preliminary screening scores (50 points).
The district received high marks by vividly presenting a case under the theme "An Old Man's Plea That No One Listens To." It was a story about how a local tax mistakenly paid due to an administrative error was corrected and refunded with the help of the district office staff and the taxpayer protection officer.
Meanwhile, Gangnam-gu introduced the taxpayer protection officer system in March last year to handle tasks such as correction or suspension requests for local tax delinquency measures or other illegal or unfair tax assessments, resolving grievances of 507 delinquent taxpayers.
Jeong Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, "Listening to taxpayers' voices is as important as protecting their rights through laws and systems," adding, "We will strive to ensure that taxpayers' rights are practically protected and that no residents suffer from unfair measures."
