[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seul-gi] A woman in her 50s who killed her spouse after subjecting them to harsh treatment while accusing them of infidelity was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

The Criminal Division 1 of the Anyang Branch of Suwon District Court (Presiding Judge Kim So-young) announced on the 27th that Yoo Mo (female, in her 50s), who was indicted on charges of murder, injury, and detention, was sentenced to 17 years in prison, ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment program, and required to register her personal information for 15 years.

According to the ruling, Yoo is accused of stabbing her husband A (male, 60s) with a weapon and killing him at their residence in Dongan-gu, Anyang-si, Gyeonggi Province on March 9.

During an argument in the living room over the issue of infidelity, Yoo repeatedly stabbed A with a weapon she found in the kitchen, demanding, "Tell me where you went with that woman." When her husband tried to calm her down, she continued to press him and stabbed him deeply in the chest, killing him.

Investigations revealed that the couple had frequent arguments over similar issues in the past.

After discovering A's infidelity, Yoo continuously confronted him about it. In October last year, during another confrontation over infidelity, she struck A's body multiple times with a metal clothes hanger and bit his shoulder, causing injuries.

Moreover, Yoo applied cosmetic salt to A's wounds under the pretense of disinfecting them, which worsened the injuries.

In February this year, Yoo bound A with nylon cords for about 20 minutes in the living room while accusing him of infidelity. Then, in early March, during an argument in the master bedroom, she forced A to strip completely and took nude photos of him against the wall.

The court stated, "The defendant harassed the victim with verbal abuse, insults, and physical violence over a long period after beginning to suspect the victim's infidelity, eventually committing a serious crime by taking the life of the victim, who was defenseless and had lost the will to resist." It added, "Although the defendant and the victim's children petitioned for leniency, other bereaved family members such as the victim's mother and siblings did not forgive her. Considering this, severe punishment commensurate with the gravity of the crime is inevitable," explaining the sentencing rationale.
