Three Confirmed Cases in Suncheon and Naju, All Students and Staff Test Negative Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Three students in Suncheon and Naju, Jeollanam-do, tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), raising concerns among education authorities. However, test results showed that all students and staff at the schools tested negative.

According to the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 26th, a female student at Suncheon Electronic High School (Jeonnam No. 375) and two sisters at Naju Raon Elementary School (Jeonnam No. 371 and No. 372) were confirmed positive for COVID-19 the previous day.

All of them are family members of confirmed COVID-19 cases and are believed to have been infected through family contact.

In response, quarantine authorities set up temporary screening clinics at Suncheon Electronic High School and Naju Raon Elementary School, collecting samples from about 1,119 students and staff. On the 26th, all tested negative.

An official from the Provincial Office of Education stated, “Sporadic infections through families are spreading to students,” and urged, “Since there is a possibility of large-scale infections at schools, please refrain from outside activities unless absolutely necessary.”

Meanwhile, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education plans to switch all high schools to remote classes starting one week before the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), conduct disinfection at test site schools, and install protective partitions on all examinees’ desks to prevent droplet infection.
