[Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] On the 26th, the Blue House held a National Security Council (NSC) Standing Committee meeting chaired by Suh Hoon, Director of the National Security Office, stating, "While paying attention to the resurgence of COVID-19 domestically, including in the military, the foreign and security departments will unite to thoroughly take necessary related measures to ensure the COVID-19 situation calms down as soon as possible."
Following the NSC meeting, the Blue House announced in a written press release, "We discussed concrete measures to advance the 'Northeast Asia Quarantine and Health Cooperation Body' initiative proposed by our side in relation to the regional spread of COVID-19."
Additionally, "The standing committee members evaluated the results of the remains excavation project conducted in our area of Hwasalmeori from April 20 to this month’s 20th, and agreed to continue the remains excavation project within the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) next year," adding, "We will thoroughly prepare to ensure that the joint remains excavation work between South and North Korea, as specified in the 'September 19 Military Agreement,' can proceed."
This year, 330 remains (tentatively 143 bodies) and 17,598 personal effects were excavated in our area of Hwasalmeori. The remains of 103 Chinese soldiers were handed over to China on September 27 after excavation.
