"Work and Investment Will Increase Proportionally to the Love Received"
Global online video service (OTT) Netflix has established a dedicated corporation for investment and support of Korean content.
According to the film industry on the 26th, Netflix established 'Netflix Entertainment Korea' last September. Existing content-related personnel have been assigned to focus on discovering, investing in, and supporting Korean content. At the same time, it aims to strengthen the expertise of the existing corporation 'Netflix Services Korea,' which has been responsible for domestic OTT operations. The office space remains the same at the existing Jongno-gu Gongpyeong-dong building.
Netflix has already operated separate corporations in countries with active original content production such as the UK, Spain, and Brazil. A representative said, "This is part of our efforts to introduce more Korean content to the world." They added, "As many Korean contents are loved by entertainment fans worldwide, related work and investment will gradually increase."
Netflix has invested approximately 800 billion KRW in domestic content from 2015 to this year. About seventy dramas have been introduced worldwide as original content. Films such as 'Seungriho,' 'Call,' and 'Cha In-pyo,' which had their theatrical releases canceled due to the spread of COVID-19, are also scheduled for release.
