Appointment of Female Executives and Diverse Talent Including Foreign Executives
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Kim Jong-hyun, President of LG Chem's battery division, has been appointed as the inaugural CEO of LG Energy Solution, the newly launched company spun off from LG Chem's battery business.
On the 26th, LG Chem's board of directors approved the largest-ever executive promotion in 2021, promoting a total of 41 executives, including 1 president, 4 vice presidents, 11 executive directors, 24 newly appointed managing directors, and 1 senior research fellow.
LG Chem stated that the key features of this personnel reshuffle focus on thorough business performance, including ▲bold selection of young talent to nurture future entrepreneurs ▲strengthening diversity and global organizational capabilities through the appointment of female and foreign executives ▲and enhancing future business competitiveness through the stable launch of the newly established battery corporation.
Lee Chang-sil, Executive Director, has been appointed as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and Park Hae-jung, newly appointed Executive Director, as the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHO) of the new corporation "LG Energy Solution," which will launch on December 1.
Sohn Ji-woong, currently Vice President and head of the Life Sciences Business Division at LG Chem, was promoted to President in recognition of his outstanding achievements.
President Sohn holds a medical doctorate from Seoul National University and is an expert in the pharmaceutical business sector with experience as a specialist, medical school professor, and key positions in global pharmaceutical companies. Since his appointment as head of LG Chem's Life Sciences Business Division in 2017, he has been recognized for improving business profitability and expanding the new drug pipeline, thereby strengthening mid- to long-term growth momentum.
There are four vice presidents promoted in total. Kim Sung-min, Executive Director, is an HR expert who has served as Chief Human Resources Officer at major LG Group affiliates. Appointed as LG Chem's CHO in December last year, he was promoted to Vice President in recognition of his contributions to securing business competitiveness through proactive HR system improvements in response to internal and external environmental changes.
Kim Jung-dae, Executive Director, is an expert with extensive experience in finance, accounting, and management diagnostics. He has led financial structure stabilization by proactively responding to business environment changes at LG Corp. and LG Innotek. Appointed last December as the head of Integrity Management, he was promoted to Vice President for his contributions to securing business competitiveness through process improvements and spreading integrity management.
Jung Geun-chang, Executive Director, was appointed head of the Automotive Battery Development Center in 2017. Based on his automotive battery development capabilities, he was promoted to Vice President in recognition of his contributions to improving automotive battery product competitiveness and future readiness.
Kim Soo-ryeong, Executive Director, is a battery business expert who has held key development positions since the early days of the battery business. Since March last year, she has served as head of the Battery Quality Center and was promoted to Vice President for her contributions to strengthening quality competitiveness.
This personnel reshuffle is notable for appointing diverse talents, including the first female executive in the Life Sciences Business Division and the promotion of foreign executives.
Yoon Soo-hee, Managing Director, has served as head of the Specialty Care Business Division since May last year. She was promoted to the first female Executive Director in the Life Sciences Business Division in recognition of her efforts to expand the bio-business base and strengthen business capabilities through the development of key diagnostic projects.
Kim Hyang-myeong (Chinese), newly appointed Managing Director, is an expert who has performed public affairs duties for about 23 years after joining the China Yongxing Production Corporation. She was recognized for her contributions to securing stable production capabilities, including strengthening environmental safety functions.
Denny Timik (German), newly appointed Managing Director, is a battery cell development expert. Since October 2017, he has served as head of the European Automotive Battery Tech Center and, since October last year, as head of development at the Polish automotive battery production corporation. He was recognized for his contributions to stabilizing mass production of developed products, including yield improvement.
Meanwhile, the Petrochemical Business Division has established a Global Production Center by integrating production functions to strengthen manufacturing competitiveness in environment, safety, and quality management. Sunwoo Ji-hong, currently head of the Petrochemical Business Division Tech Center, was appointed to lead this center. Additionally, Vice President Yoo Ji-young was appointed as the new CTO, and Executive Director Nam Cheol was appointed as the new head of the Advanced Materials Business Division.
