One Week Before Suneung... 38 Students Newly Confirmed, 200 Schools Adjust In-Person Classes On the afternoon of November 18, a temporary screening clinic was set up at an elementary school in Seo-gu, Gwangju, where students underwent testing for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). After a student at this school tested positive for COVID-19, all students and staff were tested.

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] More than 30 students have tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) one week before the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT).


According to the Ministry of Education on the 26th, since the phased return to school began on May 20th until the previous day, the cumulative number of student COVID-19 cases reached 1,119, with 38 new cases reported on the 25th alone. Due to the omission of 10 students confirmed on the 24th, the total number of confirmed student cases increased by 48.


The number of confirmed cases among faculty and staff increased by 8, totaling 213.


As of 10 a.m. on the same day, 200 schools across 12 cities and provinces nationwide had adjusted their in-person class schedules, which is 13 fewer than the previous day (213 schools).


The number of schools suspending in-person classes had increased for seven consecutive days based on in-person class days until the previous day since the 17th (77 schools), but the upward trend has stopped for the first time.


By region, schools that failed to hold in-person classes are as follows: 74 in Jeonnam, 51 in Seoul, 31 in Gyeonggi, 13 in Gangwon, 12 in Ulsan, 8 in Gyeongbuk, 5 in Chungnam, 2 in Chungbuk, and 1 each in Busan, Incheon, Gwangju, and Sejong.


Meanwhile, as of the 23rd of this month, 30 out of 332 universities nationwide, accounting for 9.0%, were conducting fully remote classes. With the increase in confirmed cases among university students, the number of universities operating fully remote classes increased by 20 compared to the previous survey on the 16th (10 universities).


From the 18th to the 24th, 139 university students and 8 university faculty and staff members were confirmed positive.
