[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The final stage of selecting startups to take charge of the application areas of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology, together with LG Display, has begun.
On the 26th, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that it held the finals for the first phase of the 'Large-Star Solver Platform' at N15 in Jung-gu, Seoul, focusing on LG Display's task of 'content and solutions applicable to organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology.'
The Large-Star Solver Platform is a new type of contest that connects large corporations and startups to solve each other's problems together and complement each other's different capabilities.
Six startups participated in the finals, presenting ideas related to 'distribution-related services such as clothing and accessory trial fitting and recommendations using augmented reality (AR) technology' and 'expanding the scope of use with customized learning exercise content.'
Initially, the startups' ideas were planned to be directly demonstrated by being installed on six types of LG Display's organic light-emitting diode (OLED) products, but due to the spread of COVID-19, the evaluation was conducted by watching pre-recorded videos.
The evaluation involved experts in electronics, telecommunications, and design fields, as well as LG Display employees. The focus was on marketability reflecting differentiation from existing content and consumer preferences, and the potential for expanding the use of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology.
The final selected startups will be awarded at the 'Performance Sharing Conference' held on the 1st of next month at Sejong Hall, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Jongno-gu, Seoul. They will receive up to 2.5 billion KRW in government support, including commercialization (100 million KRW), technology development (up to 400 million KRW), and technology special guarantee (up to 2 billion KRW). They will also gain opportunities for joint projects with large corporations and global expansion utilizing overseas networks.
