[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] As Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae has filed disciplinary charges and suspended Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol from duty, her past remarks are being reexamined. Minister Chu criticized the then Park Geun-hye administration in 2013, claiming that the resignation of former Prosecutor General Chae Dong-wook was due to pressure from the Blue House.
On the 26th, former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon shared a video on his Facebook page showing Minister Chu, who was then a member of the Democratic Party (now the Democratic Party of Korea), criticizing former Prime Minister Chung Hong-won in a parliamentary inquiry regarding Chae’s resignation.
Minister Chu raised her voice toward Prime Minister Chung, saying, "Prime Minister, didn’t you drive out the hardworking Prosecutor General?" and "Didn’t you also dismiss the investigation chief who insisted on investigation and prosecution?"
She continued, "In such a situation, can the public expect a convincing investigation result? Prime Minister Chung is trying every possible way to please the President in this position," she criticized.
In response, former professor Jin said, "A letter I send to myself. Past Chu Mi-ae to present Chu Mi-ae," adding, "These people in this regime seem not to be Homo sapiens but a different species. Isn’t their brain structure fundamentally different?" he fiercely condemned.
Voices criticizing this have also emerged in the political sphere. On the same day, People Power Party lawmaker Jo Su-jin posted a screenshot of the related video on her Facebook, targeting Minister Chu with the criticism "Chu-ro-nam-bul" (a Korean expression meaning double standards by Chu).
Meanwhile, former Prosecutor General Chae resigned in September 2013 amid allegations of an extramarital child while investigating the 'National Intelligence Service’s interference in the presidential election' case.
