Yeosu City Council's Yeosun Special Committee Launches 'Commute Campaign' for Enactment of Yeosun Incident Special Act

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Yeosu City Council's Yeosun Incident Special Committee is attracting attention for its "Commute Campaign," which aims to raise local community interest in the enactment of the Yeosun Incident Special Act.

According to the Yeosu City Council (Chairman Jeon Chang-gon), members of the Yeosun Special Committee have been conducting a total of 12 campaigns since the 19th of last month to urge the enactment of the special law.

In particular, the council members have been holding campaigns at busy traffic locations such as Ssangbong Intersection, Yeoseo-dong Rotary, Munsu Samgeori, and Dowon Intersection to attract the attention of commuters.

On the morning of the 24th, they carried placards and banners with phrases such as "Urging the enactment of the Yeosun Incident Special Act" around the Wireless Goindol Park area.

The special committee had planned to visit the National Assembly the day before to distribute watches engraved with camellia flower patterns to lawmakers to request their participation in the enactment of the special law, but the schedule was postponed due to the spread of COVID-19.

On the same day, a screening of "Camellia," themed on the Yeosun Incident, and an exhibition related to the Yeosun Incident by the children of "Mongine Yenanum" were also scheduled at the National Assembly but were canceled.

Min Deok-hee, chairperson of the Yeosun Incident Special Committee, said, "We intended to appeal for efforts to enact the special law by giving lawmakers camellia watches engraved with the phrase 'Now is the time to enact the special law,' but we are very disappointed that the schedule was canceled. However, we plan to continue activities that can raise interest in the enactment of the special law in the region."

The Yeosun Special Committee consists of seven members: Min Deok-hee, Lee Mi-kyung, Lee Seon-hyo, Baek In-sook, Go Hee-kwon, Joo Jong-seop, and Kang Hyun-tae, and will operate until October 24 of next year.
