Gwangju University Alumnus Ha Seung-mu Receives '2020 Proud Korean National Award'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangju University announced on the 26th that alumnus Ha Seung-moo (Department of Journalism and Broadcasting, Class of 1991) received the Grand Prize in the Social Public Interest category at the ‘2020 Proud Korean People Awards’ organized by the Korean National Movement Headquarters.


Alumnus Ha, active as a social activist, was highly evaluated for his role in resolving regional conflicts and serving as a communication channel between regions through nationwide forum activities.


He said, “I believe I was selected as the awardee to encourage me to continue working in the social field without pandering to politics or ideology, just as I have done so far, and to help our society share more and harmonize with each other.”


He added, “In the future, I will not only maintain the balanced attitude of a social activist through talent donation activities in various fields of the nation and society but also strive for communication between regions and social integration in Korea as we enter the 21st-century era of unification.”


Alumnus Ha, who is engaged in various public interest activities with the Ministry of Unification, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, and educational organizations, has received awards such as the ‘34th Proud Busan Citizen Award’ and the ‘2018 Korean Theological Educator Award.’ He has also led the founding and editing of international professional journals, playing a leading role in the early internationalization of the Busan region and communication with other regions.


Meanwhile, the ‘2020 Proud Korean People Awards’ presented grand prizes in a total of 15 categories through screening, and the award ceremony was held on the 24th at the Sejong Hall of the Sejong Hotel in Seoul.


Past recipients include National Assembly member Lee Nak-yeon (former Prime Minister), National Assembly member Do Jong-hwan (former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism), National Assembly member In Jae-geun, film director Bong Joon-ho, actor Jeon Mu-song, marathoner Lee Bong-ju, BTS, mountaineer Um Hong-gil, and foreign ambassadors to Korea.
