[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Jong-in, the Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, raised his voice saying that a simultaneous parliamentary audit of Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol and Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae is necessary.
Chairman Kim said on the morning of the 26th, after the Emergency Committee meeting at the National Assembly, "The parliamentary audit will naturally have to cover both individuals at once in relation to this incident," expressing this view.
The ruling party's stance is to accept only a parliamentary audit of Prosecutor General Yoon. Regarding this, he responded, "If the ruling party conducts a numerically biased investigation, the parliamentary audit will not be properly conducted."
Chairman Kim also said the day before that the president, who holds the appointment authority, should resolve the conflict between the two by dismissing the Prosecutor General. When asked by reporters about the legal basis for this, Chairman Kim replied, "The president is the appointing authority, so if the president calls the Prosecutor General and talks, it can naturally be resolved without needing to consider legal grounds. When appointing or dismissing a minister, do we consider legal grounds? When the appointing authority appoints a new person, that ends it."
