Samsung Card Signs Industry-Academia Agreement with Seoul National University for XAI Implementation

Samsung Card Plans to Introduce and Utilize XAI Technology in AI-Based Services

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] Samsung Card announced on the 26th that it has signed an industry-academic cooperation agreement with Seoul National University IDEA Lab for the 'Introduction and Utilization of XAI.'

Through this agreement, the two institutions will jointly research the newly spotlighted XAI (eXplainable AI) and cooperate in introducing and utilizing XAI technology in Samsung Card's AI-based services such as marketing.

Recently, AI has become more sophisticated in prediction and judgment capabilities, but there has been a limitation in that it is difficult for humans to interpret the prediction results. XAI complements AI's explainability by providing grounds for predictions and judgments, supporting humans in making rational decisions.

In particular, this industry-academic cooperation has attracted attention in the industry as it is the second collaboration utilizing the AI capabilities and know-how of Samsung Card and Seoul National University. In 2017, Samsung Card and Seoul National University jointly developed an AI-based personalized marketing model, which has been used in Samsung Card's marketing and member management.

A Samsung Card official said, "We plan to apply XAI techniques, which are actively researched domestically and internationally, to various tasks such as marketing and risk management," adding, "Through this collaboration with Seoul National University, it will be possible to establish more sophisticated marketing and risk strategies, and it is expected to help customers make rational decisions."
