28-29 Il Yeoksam-dong VSG Arena 20 Guk Seonsedan Chamga ... Gangnam-gu Office Official YouTube Channel Live Broadcast
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jung Soon-gyun) will hold the ‘IEF 2020 International eSports Festival in Gangnam’ national competition, co-hosted by the International Exchange Federation (Co-Chairmen Lee Kwang-jae and Nam Kyung-pil), on the 28th and 29th in an ontact format.
The ‘IEF International eSports Festival’ is a university student eSports competition officially supported by the governments of Korea and China. Since the first tournament held in 2005 in Beijing, China, it has been held alternately in Korea and China every year, marking its 16th edition this year.
Unlike previous years when players from each country gathered in one place, this year’s event will be held ontact to prevent COVID-19 infection. Teams from 20 participating countries will compete at local eSports venues, and all matches will be broadcast live on Gangnam-gu Office’s official YouTube channel, the main broadcaster KBS’s ‘myK’, and YouTube’s ‘esports KBS’.
The Korean national team consists of three teams each for the online games ‘League of Legends (LOL)’ and ‘Battlegrounds’, and three players for ‘Hearthstone’. They will challenge other national teams for the championship at the ‘VSG Arena’, an eSports venue located in Yeoksam-dong.
On the 29th, a big match event between the national team and current and former professional gamers will take place.
Meanwhile, Gangnam-gu and IEF installed individual partitions in the seating area of the VSG Arena, thoroughly implementing quarantine measures in line with the elevated ‘social distancing’ measures in the metropolitan area. On-site access is restricted to players and officials only to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
