[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) has decorated Gwangjin Bridge, a pedestrian-friendly bridge, with luminaria (landscape lighting) sculptures to create the "Gangdong Bridge of Light," illuminating the light of hope every night until the end of the year.
This aims to revitalize the atmosphere dampened by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and offer comfort to residents experiencing COVID blues.
Since 2017, Gangdong-gu has been offering unique enjoyment to residents by hosting the Gwangjin Bridge Festival, a joint festival among autonomous districts, and from 2019, a car-free street cultural event on Gwangjin Bridge. However, this year, the event was ultimately canceled due to the impact of COVID-19.
Instead, the district has transformed Gwangjin Bridge into a nighttime attraction featuring a luminaria forest. Various sculptures, including 3,560 LED roses and illuminated cherry blossom trees, have been installed so citizens can freely walk across the Han River bridge and enjoy the night lighting.
The Gangdong Bridge of Light operates from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM until December 31.
Additionally, busking performances are scheduled every Saturday in December from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, “We expect the Gangdong Bridge of Light over Gwangjin Bridge to provide warm comfort and hope to citizens who have been feeling down due to COVID-19,” and added, “Please continue to follow quarantine guidelines such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing while taking walks.”
