KT Exports IPTV Platform to Thailand

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT has exported its IPTV platform to Thailand.

On the 26th, KT announced that it supplied 24 billion KRW worth of '3BB GIGATV' to Thailand's 3BB TV. This achievement was accomplished through 15 months of non-face-to-face collaboration involving about 200 personnel, conducting video conferences, remote control, market research, and consulting with 11 partner companies amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

3BB GIGATV integrates KT's IPTV technology, including IPTV and OTT solutions, content delivery network optimization technology, advertising, and recommendation search services. Customized features reflecting the local Thai environment were also added. Considering that most Thai households have four or more family members, up to six personalized IDs can be created on a single TV. To prepare for unstable climate conditions, image quality adjustment is possible. Based on local trends of watching multiple OTTs such as HBO simultaneously, users can access OTT services from IPTV without additional logins.

Operational capabilities from Olleh TV, Korea's largest platform with up to 8.5 million subscribers, were also transferred. To ensure stable service operation of 3BB TV, remote monitoring support is provided from KT's Media Operation Center in Korea. KT plans to leverage the growth of the global media industry due to COVID-19 and its experience in non-face-to-face global cooperation as an opportunity to continuously expand its global market presence based on this Thailand IPTV commercialization.

Park Yoon-young, President of KT's Enterprise Division, said, "This project is a successful win-win cooperation model achieved not only by KT but also by domestic media solution and set-top box companies and specialized small and medium-sized partners in various media fields entering together. Based on the successful experience gained from the Thailand IPTV project, we plan to expand our business to neighboring Southeast Asian countries and worldwide."
