Minister Chu's suspension of Prosecutor General Yoon: "Wrong" 56.3% vs "Right" 38.8%

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] About six out of ten people in the nation evaluated Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae's suspension of Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's duties as a 'wrong action.'

Realmeter, commissioned by tbs, announced on the 26th that in a survey conducted on the 25th regarding the evaluation of Yoon's suspension, 56.3% responded that it was a 'wrong action.' On the other hand, only 38.8% responded that it was a 'right action.' The response 'not sure' was 4.9%.

By region, the majority responded that it was a 'wrong action.' In Daejeon·Sejong·Chungcheong (right action 27.6% vs wrong action 68.3%) and Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam (30.3% vs 65.4%), responses indicating 'wrong action' were in the 60% range. This was followed by Incheon·Gyeonggi (37.0% vs 58.0%), Daegu·Gyeongbuk (40.8% vs 56.8%), and Seoul (41.3% vs 53.6%), showing a negative view of Minister Chu's decision. In contrast, in Gwangju·Jeolla, the positive evaluation rate was dominant with 'right action' at 52.4% and 'wrong action' at 38.6%.

Evaluations differed by age group. In their 60s, about three out of four, or 75.1%, responded that it was a 'wrong action,' showing the highest negative evaluation. In contrast, in their 40s, positive responses of 'right action' accounted for 55.8%, showing a contrasting result. In their 20s, evaluations were closely split with 'right action' at 39.9% and 'wrong action' at 47.1%.

By ideological inclination, conservatives (right action 22.1% vs wrong action 76.6%) and moderates (30.9% vs 66.6%) mostly responded that it was a 'wrong action,' but progressives showed a contrasting result with 71.8% positively evaluating it as a 'right action.'

This survey contacted 8,339 adults aged 18 and over nationwide, with a final 500 respondents completing the survey, recording a response rate of 6.0%. The sampling error is ±4.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
