[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 25th that it held a shipment ceremony at the agricultural and industrial complex to export Wando rice and frozen abalone to Ultari USA, with which it signed export contracts and business agreements through last year's export consultation meeting in LA, USA.

The Wando agricultural and marine products set out for export include three types of Wando rice: Jangbogo rice, Natural Geudaero rice, and organic rice, as well as 21 items worth about 100 million won, such as frozen abalone, processed abalone products, gim (seaweed), miyeok (wakame), dashima (kelp), and seaweed salad.

The shipment ceremony was attended by Bong Jin-moon, Deputy Governor of Wando-gun, Shin Sang-gon, CEO of Ultari USA in the United States, Kim Mi-nam, head of Wando Nonghyup, Yang Hee-moon, CEO of Dashima Abalone Marine Products Cooperative Corporation, and Kim Do-hwan, CEO of Heungil Food.

Ultari USA, located in Los Angeles, USA, was established in 2006 and is an agricultural and marine products import and distribution company with annual sales reaching 7 billion won. It directly contracts with producers of Korean specialty products and imports and sells specialty products.

Currently, it imports 420 items from 45 companies in 23 local governments and has been continuously promoting and holding sales events through its online mall since the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the last Chuseok holiday, three Wando companies (Dashima Abalone Marine Products, Heungil Food, Segyero Marine Products) participated in the "Wando Marine Products USA Ultari USA Online Promotion," achieving sales of $36,000.

Meanwhile, despite the COVID-19 crisis, Wando-gun achieved export results of $350,000 to Ultari USA this year.

An official from the county said, "We are pleased to have achieved visible results from the 2019 US market development team," adding, "Although it is difficult to develop overseas markets due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we will make further efforts to promote the excellence of Wando specialty products and lead to exports through online export consultation meetings and other means."
