Daegu Bank Delivers 'Dokdo Love Donation' to Dokdo Lighthouse

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] DGB Daegu Bank announced on the 25th that it has donated 5 million won as a ‘Dokdo Love Sponsorship Fund’ to the Dokdo Navigational Aids Management Office.

The sponsorship fund from DGB Daegu Bank will be used to procure supplies necessary for lighthouse duty and as a fund to operate the lighthouse. The sponsorship fund, delivered to the staff of the Dokdo Navigational Aids Management Office under the Pohang Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office to promote awareness of territorial sovereignty and practice love for Dokdo, has been ongoing for 12 years since it began in 2009.

The Dokdo Lighthouse (officially named Dokdo Navigational Aids Management Office) was established as an unmanned lighthouse in 1954, and was changed to a manned lighthouse in December 1998. Currently, six lighthouse keepers work in two shifts, alternating monthly, to illuminate the sea route.

Kim Hyun-dong, Head of the Eastern Gyeongbuk Headquarters of DGB Daegu Bank, said, “We delivered the sponsorship fund with gratitude to the lighthouse keepers who work hard for safe sea routes in a special environment. We will also strive to support the local economy through social contribution and activation of local specialty products such as local currency, to help the local community and economy affected by COVID-19.”
