Jindo-gun, Early 'Payment' of Basic Public Interest Direct Payment

Payment Increased by 15.9 Billion Won, Up 62%

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do, made an early payment of the basic public interest direct payment, which was implemented for the first time this year, one month ahead of schedule.

According to Jindo-gun on the 25th, the basic public interest direct payment system, established to promote the public functions of agriculture and rural areas such as environmental conservation, rural maintenance, and food safety through agricultural activities, as well as to stabilize the income of farmers, began payments from the 23rd.

The county advanced the payment schedule by about one month considering the spread of COVID-19 and damages caused by summer typhoons and monsoons. This year's direct payment amounts to 15.97 billion KRW, an increase of 62% compared to last year's 9.8 billion KRW.

The county confirmed 5,320 farms that met the eligibility criteria for the basic public interest direct payment, paying 13.2 billion KRW in area direct payments to 3,022 farms and 2.7 billion KRW in small-scale direct payments to 2,299 farms.

A representative from the Agricultural Support Division of Jindo-gun stated, "This year, farmers faced significant difficulties due to natural disasters such as typhoons and pests, as well as COVID-19," adding, "We hope the basic public interest direct payment will be a great help to farmers."
