Gurye-gun Wins Grand Prize for 'Outstanding Case of Wood Culture Experience Center'

[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] On the 25th, Jeollanam-do Gurye-gun announced that it received the grand prize in the operation excellence category at the ‘2020 Wood Culture Experience Center Best Practices and Experience Program Competition’ awards ceremony held on the 2nd floor of COEX in Seoul.

Gurye-gun was recognized for significantly contributing to the revitalization of the Wood Culture Experience Center by operating the center, promoting the visiting woodworking experience program ‘Mokyoil-eun Namuwa Nori Haneun Nal’ (Wood Day is a Day to Play with Wood), producing woodworking kit sets, and managing various SNS channels such as blogs and Instagram.

In particular, as a measure to revitalize the experience center, which was stagnated due to COVID-19, a new ‘visiting woodworking experience’ program was launched to support out-of-school experience activities and career and vocational woodworking experiences for daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary, middle, and high school students in the region, eastern Jeonnam, and Namwon-si in Jeonbuk, receiving great responses.

Additionally, a basic class for training woodworking artisans was operated to provide high-quality education to trainees, and in cooperation with the local education office, a ‘non-face-to-face woodworking experience kit set’ was produced and distributed to children’s homes. The county is doing its best to enhance the operation and value of the Wood Culture Experience Center by producing and distributing educational videos on YouTube.

A county official stated, “We will continue to develop diverse and fun experience programs, invite excellent instructors for education, and actively promote and communicate through SNS and blog operations to ensure that Gurye-gun plays a leading role in the promotion of wood culture and the revitalization of wood education.”

Meanwhile, the Gurye Wood Culture Experience Center plans to expand accessibility for residents and tourists by developing linked programs with facilities operated by the Gurye-gun Jirisan Garden Management Office, such as Jirisan Garden, Recreation Forest, Arboretum, Baekdudaegan Ecological Education Center, and Jirisan History and Culture Hall.
