According to the Gwangyang Police Station in Jeonnam on the 25th, the police, the National Forensic Service, the Yeosu branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and the Fire Department's investigation team will conduct a joint investigation from 2 p.m. to determine the cause of the accident.
The accident site is the oxygen piping facility, an auxiliary facility of Blast Furnace No. 1. The investigation team will examine the form of cracks in the oxygen piping and traces of soot to investigate the exact cause of the explosion and whether safety regulations were followed during the work.
The explosion accident occurred at 4:02 p.m. on the 24th at POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks in Geumho-dong, Gwangyang-si, Jeonnam, accompanied by an explosion sound and gray smoke.
As a result of this accident, three people died on site: POSCO employee A (40 years old) and subcontractor employees B (32) and C (53).
The Gwangyang Steelworks explained that the accident, presumed to be a fire, occurred due to a strong oxygen leak caused by a crack in the piping.
