Ha Tae-kyung: "From Moon Jae-in to Moon Doo-hwan regime... Declaration of war against the people"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for unilaterally passing the amendment to the National Intelligence Service Act, including the transfer of counterintelligence investigation authority, at the National Assembly Intelligence Committee’s bill subcommittee on the 25th. He said, “The original purpose of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) is national security and catching spies. Abolishing the counterintelligence investigation authority eliminates the reason for the NIS’s existence,” adding, “Transferring it to the Security Investigation Bureau, which will be staffed with personnel who have almost no experience in counterintelligence investigations, is tantamount to saying they will not catch spies.”
At an emergency press briefing on the Democratic Party’s revision of the NIS Act held at the National Assembly that morning, Floor Leader Joo said, “The Democratic Party is once again recklessly pushing legislation by relying on the power of numbers,” and “They are trying to unilaterally carry out something that is obviously going to weaken security investigation capabilities and cause a security vacuum.”
Joo also stated, “The government and ruling party are reportedly considering establishing a National Investigation Headquarters under the National Police Agency and transferring the counterintelligence investigation authority to set up a Security Investigation Division, depending on the outcome of the ongoing discussions regarding the Police Agency Act amendment related to the adjustment of investigative authority between the prosecution and police,” and added, “I don’t understand why they are engaging in self-harm by transferring national functions without any clear plan and then seeing what to do afterward.”
Ha Tae-kyung, the People Power Party’s secretary of the Intelligence Committee, sharply criticized, saying, “They are weakening the prosecution, which doesn’t obey well, worsening the NIS in a new way, and shifting the power center of the Moon Jae-in administration’s authoritarian rule to the police,” and added, “This is a declaration of becoming a civilian version of the Fifth Republic, and a public declaration of a pro-Moon coup d’?tat like the December 12 coup.”
Ha said, “Late yesterday afternoon, Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae also moved to set a D-day to push everything at once,” and stated, “This trend is not simply about investigative authority but a pro-Moon coup that is turning democracy into the Fifth Republic dictatorship, transforming the Moon Jae-in administration into the Moon Du-hwan regime.”
Ha also said, “Article 4, Paragraph 1 of the amendment to the NIS Act includes a clause on disturbing the economic order. Simply put, it means they intend to conduct surveillance on real estate and companies,” and added, “The big picture of the Moon Jae-in government is to turn the police into a Fifth Republic Security Headquarters to be used as a tool of political dictatorship, and to include economic surveillance provisions in the NIS to use it as an economic dictatorship organization.”
