On the 25th, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that they will conduct an on-site tour of the GOP (General Outpost) unit in Inje, Gangwon Province, for reporters accredited by the Ministry of National Defense, focusing on the GOP scientific surveillance system composed of wire mesh (barbed wire detection sensors).

Earlier, on the 19th, the Joint Chiefs of Staff sent a preliminary notice to the press explaining the GOP operational status and planned to explain the detailed analysis results of the scientific surveillance system and improvement measures.

The site to be disclosed on this day is in the eastern front line area, similar to the GOP unit in Goseong, Gangwon Province, where an incident occurred on the 3rd involving a man in his late 20s from North Korea crossing the GOP fence and defecting to the South. This location is near the Goseong unit and is known to have similar terrain such as mountainous features.

The military plans to explain the operation method of the scientific surveillance system in the mountainous areas of Gangwon Province at the site, but it is also expected to partially disclose the military inspection results and improvement measures regarding the situation when the North Korean civilian defected.

The on-site disclosure was made following concerns about the military's scientific surveillance system after the wire mesh failed to operate when Mr. A, a North Korean man, crossed the double fence at the Goseong front-line GOP.
