[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] SK Engineering & Construction announced on the 25th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 24th with Asan City and Wanseong Development to establish the 'Seonjang Eco-friendly General Industrial Complex' in Asan City, Chungnam.

At the signing ceremony held at Asan City Hall, attended by about 20 officials including Ahn Jae-hyun, President of SK Engineering & Construction, Oh Se-hyun, Mayor of Asan, and Ko Sung-han, CEO of Wanseong Development, the two companies and Asan City agreed to strengthen cooperation throughout the entire project. According to the agreement, SK Engineering & Construction and Wanseong Development will participate as Construction Investors (CI) and take responsibility for the completion of the industrial complex, striving to revitalize the local economy through job creation and production inducement. Asan City will provide administrative support to ensure the smooth progress of the new industrial complex development project.

The Seonjang Eco-friendly General Industrial Complex is planned to be developed on a 1,339,750㎡ site in Seonjang-myeon, Asan City, Chungnam, with a target completion year of 2027. It is evaluated to have excellent transportation access, being only a 15-minute drive to Sinchang Station on Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line 1, and with the Dangjin-Cheonan Expressway and the Western Inland Expressway scheduled to open in 2025.

Additionally, it will be developed as an eco-friendly complex equipped with facilities to process waste resources generated within the complex itself. Upon completion, it is expected to create about 1,200 jobs and induce approximately KRW 1.6 trillion in production, significantly contributing to the revitalization of the regional economy and strengthening competitiveness.

SK Engineering & Construction has been continuously promoting domestic industrial complex development projects. The Chungju Megapolis Industrial Complex, developed as a private-public joint project with a total investment of KRW 251 billion, has established itself as the largest industrial complex in the Chungbuk region since its completion in 2016. Going forward, based on extensive project experience, SK Engineering & Construction plans to accelerate the creation of eco-friendly smart green industrial complexes, one of the government’s recently announced Green New Deal initiatives.

Ahn Jae-hyun, President of SK Engineering & Construction, said, "Through this agreement, we have taken the first step toward actively promoting the Seonjang Eco-friendly General Industrial Complex development project," adding, "As SK Engineering & Construction is accelerating its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management efforts, we will do our best to ensure that the industrial complex is eco-friendly and can coexist harmoniously with local residents."
