Songpa-gu Ranks First in Seoul for 2 Consecutive Years in Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index (KLCI) Evaluation

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) has ranked first among Seoul districts for two consecutive years in the Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index (KLCI) evaluation.

The "Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index (KLCI) evaluation" has been conducted annually since 1996, targeting 226 cities, counties, and districts nationwide. It analyzes official data from central government ministries and agencies to assess the competitiveness of local governments across the country based on the total score (out of 1000 points) from three categories: ▲Management Resources (300 points) ▲Management Activities (300 points) ▲Management Performance (400 points).

This year, Songpa-gu's overall competitiveness index scored 602.05 points, significantly higher than the national local government average of 478.53 points, earning the highest score among Seoul's autonomous districts.

By category, Songpa-gu ranked 2nd nationwide in competitiveness in the Management Performance category with 268.48 points, and 3rd nationwide in the Management Activities category with 167.18 points, receiving excellent evaluations across all categories, thereby demonstrating Songpa-gu's local autonomy capabilities.

In particular, the remarkable progress in the Management Performance category of the KLCI evaluation stood out. While ranking 7th in 2019 in this category, Songpa-gu rose to 2nd place this year, gaining recognition for its achievements.

This is attributed to Songpa-gu's policy efforts during the 7th local government term aimed at improving residents' quality of life, such as ▲providing integrated job support services through the establishment of a job platform ▲building the Songpa Education Model (Songpa Saem) ▲creating the Songpa Dullegil trail ▲developing the Seokchon Lake Art Gallery, which have translated into tangible results felt by residents.

Mayor Park Seong-su of Songpa-gu stated, "The results of this Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index evaluation are the achievements that Songpa-gu and its 670,000 residents have accomplished together through communication and innovation," adding, "We will continue to strengthen our competitiveness as a city representing Korea beyond Seoul by promoting differentiated policies leading the With-Corona era."
