Warm and Comforting Book Festival 'Dongdaemun-gu Online Book Festival' Held

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) has prepared a special place for residents to comfort each other through books and communicate with one another amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the slogan "Our Home ON (ON·溫) Library," which carries a message of healing and recharging, the "2020 Dongdaemun-gu Online Book Festival" will be held on the Dongdaemun-gu Office YouTube channel from 2 p.m. on the 28th for about three hours.

This event is hosted by Dongdaemun-gu and jointly planned with public and private libraries within the district.

Unlike previous years when the festival was held outdoors at Dongdaemun-gu’s scenic spots in harmony with nature, this year’s book festival is held online due to COVID-19, featuring various programs so that people of all ages can safely and comfortably enjoy the book culture festival.

The main performances include ▲a lecture by author Kim Shin-hoe of "I’m Glad to Live Like Bonobono" ▲a reading play of Kim Yu-jeong’s short story "Spring·Spring" by the local young theater troupe Reset ▲and immersive reading performances of three books selected for the 2020 One Book Reading project, providing residents with diverse cultural experiences.

Additionally, programs such as the Makerspace (3D Printer Studio) and Mind Pharmacy (Book Prescription), as well as the Dongdaemun-gu Library Network’s library exploration project promoted through public library specialization projects and public-private-academic cooperation, will be introduced to help residents access and use libraries more familiarly.

On the day of the event, those who leave "COVID-19 Overcome Support Comments" on the book festival video will be entered into a drawing to receive a bhc Chicken and Cola set, offering vitality during the prolonged stay-at-home period.

Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "We will continue to strive to establish libraries as spaces for communication through books and for resting and recharging both body and mind," and added, "I hope all residents, weary from COVID-19, will have a happy time at the online book festival."
