On the 24th, at the 2nd plenary session of the 348th regular meeting of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly, Assemblywoman Lee Hye-ja introduced a proposal urging the abolition of the minimum CSAT score requirement to normalize regional public education and establish the high school credit system.
This proposal aims to uphold the purpose of the regional balanced selection system and ensure equal university admission opportunities for students in underprivileged rural fishing and farming areas by calling for the abolition of the minimum CSAT score requirement in the regional balanced selection system.
Assemblywoman Lee Hye-ja stated, "To support third-year high school students in rural fishing and farming areas struggling amid the chaotic situation caused by COVID-19, the minimum CSAT score requirement should be abolished to relieve the burden of CSAT scores."
She continued, "The admission process reflecting the CSAT scores of 15 universities in the metropolitan area accounts for 54% of total recruitment this year and 67% next year. When including the number of students transferred to regular admissions due to failure to meet the minimum CSAT score, the influence of the CSAT will increase even more."
She added, "This signals a continuous strengthening of the CSAT's influence in high schools and will be a major obstacle to the high school credit system to be implemented from the 2025 academic year. If universities abolish the minimum CSAT score requirement, the proportion of university admissions affected by the CSAT will decrease, laying the foundation for the normalization of public education."
