[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] Pianist Sunwoo Yekwon has changed agencies and released a new album, 'Mozart (MOZART)', on the 24th after three years.
Sunwoo Yekwon switched to the Korean management company Mast Media last August. The new album 'Mozart' was released under the Decca label and is Sunwoo Yekwon's first studio album. In 2017, Sunwoo Yekwon became the first Korean to win the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in the United States.
Sunwoo Yekwon said, "I don't know how such a long time of three years has passed. I have also waited and looked forward to this album a lot. It is a result achieved through the efforts of many people, so I feel happy."
The new album 'Mozart' includes the familiar Sonatas No. 8, 10, 11, 13, and 16, along with two fantasies, an adagio, and a rondo piece. The digital album features a bonus track, 'Turkish March', arranged by Arcadi Volodos.
Through this album, Sunwoo Yekwon fully realized Mozart's increasingly evolving operatic mastery, with flawless and meticulous yet distinctly separated phrasing, articulation, and dynamics. It is an album that deeply explores the human Mozart, from the dark moments of suffering that one must endure as a human to the dazzling moments of life.
Sunwoo Yekwon stated, "Mozart's music is not only the simple and clean character generally thought of but is also full of tremendous drama. Many people are going through a difficult and uncertain future, stressed with various thoughts, so I hope that through Mozart's music, they can momentarily forget everything, organize complicated thoughts, and receive comfort and inspiration."
In particular, this album includes goods featuring Sunwoo Yekwon's own musical expressions and thoughts written on part of the sheet music for 'Rondo in A minor, Op. 511', allowing listeners to enjoy the album even more richly.
Meanwhile, to commemorate the release of the new album 'Mozart', Sunwoo Yekwon plans to hold a nationwide tour, including Seoul, with a Mozart program.
