[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 24th that it will conduct the 2020 Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Census targeting all farms, forestry households, fishing households, and administrative villages in the region from the 23rd of last month to the 18th of next month.
The Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Census is conducted by local governments under the supervision of Statistics Korea. It surveys the scale, distribution, structure, and management types of all agricultural, forestry, and fishing households in the region. The results serve as basic data for national agriculture, forestry, and fisheries policy formulation and as a foundation for various statistical surveys conducted over the next five years.
A notable point in this year’s survey is the addition of items such as social changes in rural farming and fishing villages including smart farms, types of facilities (greenhouses), status of automated facilities, public transportation conditions in administrative villages, and status of village community activities. This aims to more specifically understand the quality of life of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries workers.
The survey method prioritizes non-face-to-face surveys such as the internet, and for non-responding households, surveyors will conduct face-to-face interviews.
First, survey notification letters will be sent by mail to the target households. Recipients can participate in the internet survey from November 23 to December 11 using the participation number provided in the notification letter.
For households that do not respond to the internet survey, surveyors will visit from December 1 to 18 and conduct the survey using tablet PCs. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, surveyors will strictly follow quarantine rules such as wearing masks and maintaining distance. Respondents can also participate via paper questionnaires or telephone surveys if they wish.
Gokseong-gun plans to hire 61 survey personnel, train them on survey and safety guidelines as well as tablet usage, and then deploy them for the survey.
A county official said, “As social distancing has been raised to level 1.5, we ask for active participation in non-face-to-face surveys using the internet and telephone.”
