[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, urged thorough quarantine measures and cooperation from residents as social distancing across Jeonnam was raised to level 1.5 for two weeks.
Governor Kim stated in an appeal to residents on the 24th, “Starting today, with the government raising social distancing to level 1.5 across the Honam region, the cooperation of residents for prevention is absolutely necessary.”
He continued, “Infections are sporadically continuing in connection with other regions, and local infections with unidentified transmission routes are ongoing,” adding, “Due to seasonal factors, please refrain from movement and minimize contact between people to prevent the spread of COVID-19, which can be confused with the common cold.”
He especially appealed, “Do not mistake it for a cold and miss the golden time for treatment; if symptoms such as cough, sore throat, or muscle pain appear, immediately visit the nearest public health center screening clinic for diagnostic testing.”
He also said, “Recently, group infections have spread in narrow and enclosed spaces such as bank cafeterias, PC rooms, and pubs where masks are removed to eat; except in unavoidable cases, wearing masks is strongly recommended.”
Furthermore, “With the increase in asymptomatic confirmed cases, the risk of infection is high regardless of time and place, so private gatherings and company dinners should be refrained from, and the use of enclosed multi-use facilities should be avoided,” he urged, adding, “With the social distancing level raised, the number of seats in religious facilities must be limited to within 30%.”
He also mentioned, “About 14,000 examinees will take the exam at 53 locations in the province for this year’s college entrance exam,” and said, “We will actively cooperate with the Provincial Office of Education to ensure a safe testing environment.”
The province secured 10 hospital rooms and medical staff to allow infected examinees to take the exam while receiving treatment, and measures for examinees in quarantine have already been prepared.
Governor Kim added, “I hope all residents will unite their efforts to prevent escalation to level 2.”
