According to Mokpo Maritime Police, at around 4:58 a.m. on the 15th, a report was received at the control room that a citizen A (25, female) residing in Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, had fallen into the nearby sea from the Daeban-dong Skywalk.
Police Officer Kim Dong-gwan of Seosan Police Substation, who responded to the report, arrived at the scene within 6 minutes, spotted the person struggling in the sea, immediately jumped into the water, and together with the West Sea Special Rescue Team members who arrived later, safely rescued A.
At the time of rescue, A complained of hypothermia but fortunately was conscious and breathing, and was transported to a hospital in Mokpo via the waiting 119 ambulance team.
Police Officer Kim Dong-gwan said, "It was difficult to secure visibility during the early morning rescue," and recalled the tense situation, "As soon as I found the person who fell, I jumped into the sea without a moment's hesitation to rescue her."
