Samsung Electronics and Sarangui Yeolmae Select 40 Nonprofit Organizations for 'Sharing and Dream' Program

Samsung Electronics and Sarangui Yeolmae Select 40 Nonprofit Organizations for 'Sharing and Dream' Program

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Samsung Electronics and the Community Chest of Korea, also known as Sarangui Yeolmae, announced on the 24th the selection of 40 nonprofit organizations for the '2021 Sharing and Dream' project, the largest social welfare public contest in Korea.

'Sharing and Dream' is a public contest project jointly conducted by Sarangui Yeolmae and Samsung Electronics since 2016 to support nonprofit organizations that have good ideas but lack the resources to implement their projects, contributing to solving social issues. Including the 40 organizations selected this year, a total of 247 nonprofit organizations have received 45 billion KRW over the past five years.

This year, 40 organizations were selected, including the social cooperative 'Hamkke Sijak' supporting social entry and independence of marginalized youth with low sociality; 'Saengtae Jipyeong,' which produces educational materials and awareness programs related to marine protection for youth; 'Cheongsonyeon Maeul Nopen Nuri,' where children and adolescents discover stories related to local cultural heritage and work as village guides; 'Hoi,' which strengthens school health capacity to prevent infectious diseases in northern Uganda; and 'Dochon Comprehensive Social Welfare Center,' which establishes a total care system to alleviate COVID-19 blues.

Starting this year, the contest was divided into 'Focused Theme' and 'Free Theme' based on project content, with 20 organizations selected for each. The 'Focused Theme' projects are 'Child and Youth Education and Independence Support Projects,' which proactively identify and support social issues affecting the growth and independence of future generations. The 'Free Theme' projects allow organizations to freely propose activities necessary to effectively solve welfare issues in local communities.

The selection ceremony was held via a non-face-to-face video conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attended by Kim Yeon-soon, Secretary General of Sarangui Yeolmae, Professor Kim Shin-yeol of Jeonbuk National University, and representatives from the 40 selected organizations.

Yejong-seok, Chairman of Sarangui Yeolmae, said, "The Sharing and Dream project has established itself as a representative public contest in the welfare sector by supporting 247 nonprofit organizations over five years," adding, "We will help the 40 organizations selected this year to solve various social issues, including child and youth education and independence support."
