Gwangju City Publishes Nation's First 'Guide to Creating a Gender-Equal Organizational Culture'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 24th that it has published the nation's first "Guidebook for Creating a Gender-Equal Organizational Culture" to help public officials understand and practice gender equality.

This guidebook was prepared to eradicate sexual violence issues in the public sector, enhance gender sensitivity, and establish a safe and discrimination-free organizational culture. It is the first case among local governments nationwide.

The guidebook systematically organizes the reasons for creating a gender-equal organizational culture, the components of such a culture, self-diagnosis, and practical measures for achieving it.

It also contains detailed information on the duties and roles of grievance counseling offices that public institutions can use, procedures for resolving incidents, systems to prevent secondary damage, and types of victimization.

Gwangju plans to distribute the guidebook to over 300 institutions, including local governments (including councils and education offices), the National Human Rights Commission, and the National Women's Family Foundation, and to post an electronic file on the Gwangju Democracy and Human Rights Portal website so that any citizen can access it.

Yoon Mok-hyun, Director of the Democracy, Human Rights, and Peace Bureau of the city, said, "We hope this guidebook will serve as a guide for local public institutions and the field to move toward gender-equal organizations and further act as a stepping stone for realizing a 'gender-equal Gwangju' that citizens can empathize with."
