[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do will hold an opening ceremony for the new government building on the 24th at 2:30 PM at the Government Gyeongbuk Regional Joint Office located in the 2nd Administrative Town of the Provincial Government New City in Homyeong-myeon, Yecheon-gun.

The opening ceremony, hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, will be held simply with only Ha Dae-seong, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongsangbuk-do, heads of resident institutions, and building management office staff attending to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Government Gyeongbuk Regional Joint Office was constructed on a 10,000㎡ site with a total floor area of 10,427㎡, consisting of one basement floor and six above-ground floors. Gyeongsangbuk-do requested the central government to build the joint office in 2012, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety completed the project in September this year with a budget of 26.5 billion KRW for land acquisition and design.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Gyeongbuk Building Management Office moved in at the end of September this year to finalize construction and manage building operations. Starting with the Yecheon-gun Election Commission on October 27, a total of five institutions including the Gyeongbuk Provincial Election Commission, Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Military Manpower Administration Andong Service Management Center, and Gyeongbuk Northern Veterans Affairs Office, with about 120 personnel, are scheduled to move in.

With the construction of the Government Gyeongbuk Regional Joint Office and the relocation of government agencies, Yecheon-gun’s Provincial Government New City is expected by Gyeongsangbuk-do to experience population inflow effects and lay the groundwork for the relocation of affiliated and related institutions.

This year, the Gyeongbuk Women and Family Plaza was established here, and the Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters is also planning to build a new office building with a budget of 24.6 billion KRW, consisting of one basement floor and seven above-ground floors. Gyeongsangbuk-do affiliated institutions such as the Human Resources Development Institute, Provincial Art Troupe, and Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory are also proceeding with relocation procedures to the new city as planned.

Ha Dae-seong, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongsangbuk-do, emphasized, "The relocation of related institutions is an indispensable factor for revitalizing the new city and attracting population. Taking the construction of the joint office as an opportunity, we will make every effort to attract government agencies with significant ripple effects from relocation so that the new city transforms into an administrative central city and further establishes its status and appearance as the center of the northern region and the location of the provincial government."

Meanwhile, as of the end of October, the registered population of the Provincial Government New City was 19,641, an increase of 1,498 from the previous quarter. It is expected to surpass 20,000 within this year.
