Gwangju Nam-gu, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Hosts 'Family Center SOC Best Practice' Encouragement Award

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Nam-gu Family Love Sharing Center won the Encouragement Award in the evaluation of the ‘2020 Family Center SOC Best Practice Contest’ conducted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family to discover excellent ideas and living SOC.

According to Nam-gu on the 24th, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family recently held a contest targeting 70 local governments nationwide that have been promoting the construction of family centers from last year to this year.

In this contest, the Nam-gu Family Love Sharing Center received favorable reviews from the judges for its excellent spatial arrangement of the center, including the outdoor space plan that incorporates the city and nature, family-friendly space composition for women and children, and the efficient layout of the workshop within the regional self-sufficiency center, which is jointly created as a living SOC complex facility.

The Nam-gu Family Love Sharing Center, currently under construction with a target completion date of July 2022, is being built with one basement floor and four above-ground floors in Nodong-dong Pulbit Neighborhood Park, surrounded by forest.

In particular, the natural environment of Pulbit Neighborhood Park, with trees and dense forest to the northwest of the center site, has been utilized to reflect a nature-friendly design in the city that offers a pleasant view and a wide-open sense of openness.

Additionally, childcare and care-related facilities such as a communal childcare sharing space and a Together Care Center are concentrated inside the Family Love Sharing Center building to improve residents’ accessibility and usage efficiency, strengthening the local care system centered on public institutions, and it is expected to become a key hub space for family policy.

Along with this, to ensure independent use of the Family Love Sharing Center and the Regional Self-Sufficiency Center, a main entrance with separated circulation paths has been installed, and dedicated spaces and workshops have been arranged to provide jobs and employment counseling for low-income individuals with work ability, maximizing the utilization of the Regional Self-Sufficiency Center.

Furthermore, to provide convenience to local residents living near the center, a residential parking lot is being installed on the basement first floor, which will be used as an open communication space between the Nam-gu Family Love Sharing Center and nearby residents.

A Nam-gu official said, “Having taken the first step in building the Nam-gu Family Love Sharing Center, receiving good evaluations from the government has increased local residents’ interest. We will create a happy welfare Nam-gu where work and family coexist by providing communal childcare and elementary care services in response to the era of nuclear families and the increase of dual-income couples.”
