[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, said on the 24th regarding Kim Jong-in, the emergency committee chairman, stating that funds for disaster relief and support measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic should be secured in the main budget, “If we assume that the COVID-19 situation will not be resolved by the end of next year, many affected industries such as self-employed and small business owners will emerge,” and added, “There are hardly any who oppose the need to establish measures for this.”

After the floor strategy meeting on the same day, Floor Leader Joo told reporters, “It is not desirable to have temporary and impulsive supplementary budgets several times like this year,” and said, “In a situation where fiscal soundness has deteriorated, the country’s finances should be made predictable.”

Floor Leader Joo stated, “Support methods for industries affected by COVID-19 must be devised in some way, and there were many concerns about making a populist supplementary budget ahead of next year’s Seoul and Busan mayoral by-elections.”

Regarding the High-ranking Officials’ Crime Investigation Unit (Gong-su-cheo), Floor Leader Joo criticized, “I hope the Democratic Party of Korea regains composure and does not overreach,” and said, “Would the public accept them pushing through a law that hasn’t even been properly implemented just because they have the numbers, and appointing a Gong-su-cheo chief to suit their tastes?”
